Our iGCSE Maths Tutor in Dubai: Meet Connor Smith, Our Year 10 & 11 Expert

At Breakthrough Maths, I’m very careful about who I put in front of our students. Maths is one of those subjects where the wrong experience can knock confidence very quickly, especially at iGCSE level. The right tutor, on the other hand, can completely change how a student feels about Maths.

That’s why I’m delighted to introduce Connor Smith, one of our iGCSE Maths tutors in Dubai working with students in Dubai and across the wider UAE.

Connor leads our Year 10 and Year 11 Higher iGCSE Maths classes, and he brings together three things I always look for in a tutor: strong academic ability, real teaching experience, and a calm, reassuring way of explaining Maths that students genuinely respond to.

About Connor Smith – Our iGCSE Maths Tutoring Expert in Dubai

Connor is a First Class Honours PhD researcher from Liverpool, currently studying Physics at Northumbria University. While his academic background is extremely strong, what stands out most is how clearly he explains things and how enthusiastic he is about teaching maths. Connor has a real talent for breaking down complex ideas and making them feel manageable.

Over the past five years, Connor has completed more than 2,000 hours of Maths tutoring, working with students across the UK, Dubai and the wider UAE. That experience shows quickly in his classes. He knows where students tend to struggle, how to spot gaps early, and how to explain topics without rushing or overwhelming anyone.

At Breakthrough Maths, Connor teaches our Year 10 and Year 11 Higher iGCSE Maths students, two years where the right support can make a huge difference.

Experienced iGCSE Maths Tutor in Dubai

Our IGCSE maths tutor, Connor, has extensive experience working with students from leading international schools in Dubai. He has taught students from Nord Anglia International School Dubai (NAS Dubai), Dubai British School Emirates Hills (DBSEH) and Deira International School (DIS) and many more schools in the UAE.

Because of this, he understands the pace of international schools, the expectations of iGCSE exam boards, and the pressure students are often under during Year 10 and Year 11. This allows him to connect what students are learning in school with our lessons, while also strengthening the fundamentals that are often missed in busy classrooms.

Building iGCSE Maths Confidence the Right Way

Many students who join Breakthrough Maths feel that Maths has become too fast or confusing. They might recognise topics but lack confidence when answering questions independently, especially when questions are worded differently.

Connor’s approach is simple and effective: go back to basics and build up properly.

At Breakthrough Maths, we teach Maths like building Lego. We start with the foundations, topics such as numbers and algebra, and only move on once students feel secure. From there, Connor gradually introduces geometry, trigonometry and circles, before developing confidence in areas many students find tricky, such as statistics and probability.

Nothing is rushed, and nothing is skipped. Each topic builds on the last, helping students feel in control of their learning again.

Our 4-Class-Per-Week Structure

One of the biggest reasons students progress so well at Breakthrough Maths is how our classes are structured.

Every student has access to four live iGCSE maths tutor classes per week. On Monday and Tuesday, we cover one topic. On Wednesday and Thursday, we cover a different topic. In practice, this means students only need to attend two classes per week, but they can attend all four if they want extra repetition or support.

We deliberately cover two topics per week so we can move at a slow, controlled pace. This gives students time to absorb what they’re learning and ask questions without feeling under pressure. For iGCSE students, especially those who have lost confidence, this approach makes a real difference.

Connor uses this structure to ensure students fully understand each topic before moving on.

Supporting Year 10 and Year 11 iGCSE Students

Year 10 and Year 11 are demanding years, and Maths can quickly become a source of stress.

Connor’s classes are calm, supportive and well structured. Students are encouraged to ask questions, make mistakes and learn from them in a relaxed environment. Over time, confidence builds naturally, and students begin to approach Maths with a more positive mindset.

Parents regularly tell us that their child feels more settled and confident in Maths after joining Connor’s classes, which is exactly what we aim for at Breakthrough Maths.
